Johannesburg- The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) released performance stats for the Department for the month of July 2019 today the 27th of August 2019.
The July 2019 stats were presented by the Police Chief for JMPD Mr. David Tembisa at the New Council Chambers in Johannesburg.
The JMPD said they need to improve on visibility especially in the Hotspots identified and they should deal harshly on Reckless & Negligent Driving.
?790 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
(72 of these are arrests in Midrand, Rabie Radige, Ivory Park)
?15 individuals arrested for reckless and negligent driving.
?37 hijacked and stolen vehicles were recovered.
?14 total firearms recovered.
?106 ammunition recovered.
?17 arrested for robbery.
The Metro Police conducted 79 roadside checks in July. 7056 vehicles were stopped and 6796 were screened leading to 94 arrests. A total number of 10 accidents were attended to.
“Misconduct has decreased amongst JMPD officers, which is a good sign but officers who stop motorists and escort them to ATM’s will be dealt with severely. We can’t allow our JMPD officers to extort money from the residents and visitors of the City of Johannesburg.” Said Tembe
4 Corruption cases and 7 misconduct cases were reported in the period under review.
Furthermore, JMPD raided 78 bad buildings in the inner City and 68 undocumented people were arrested.
