BURNED TO DEATH BY BOYFRIEND

Dorcas Jane “Nurse” Rathokana (52) sadly succumbed to her burn wounds at Tembisa Hospital on the 16th of August 2020.

This was after she was admitted to the hospital. Nurse was doused with paraffin and set alight by her boyfriend in Ivory Park ema 7 last week.

The suspect has been on the run and has since been arrested by the Ivory Park SAPS. The suspect is currently under police custody at Ivory Park Police Station having been charged with murder and is awaiting his day at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.

The gruesome incident occurred as we are celebrating women’s month. A candle light memorial service was held and is underway at Mahlangu Street with Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Secretary General of the EFF, Poppy Mailola.

“We are tired of Gender Based Violence. Tired of being hashtags that come and go without true repercussions. Tired of being reminded that we are disposable. It’s tiring and disheartening. “

“The justice system has failed women incredibly. Society has failed women. Gender based violence is so deep-rooted within our lives that women have to be on the lookout and live in fear. That’s the country we live” said an emotional Shirley Mamotse Mollala who is the PR Coucillor of the EFF in Ward 78.

Nurse will be buried on Saturday, 22 August 2020.

We send our deepest condolences to the Rathokana family and the deceased friends.
