PRISON BREAK IN PRETORIA
Two prisoners have escaped from Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria.
The escaped prisoners have been identified as Thabo Zacharia Muyambo a Mozambican national who was serving life for 21 counts including rape, robbery and kidnapping and Johannes Chauke from Zimbabwe who was serving 20 years for house breaking and other crimes.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has launched a manhunt for the recapture of the fugitives. Members of the Emergency Support Team from Correctional Services working closely with the South African Police Service are hot on the heels for the escapees.
The DCS has also initiated an internal investigations into the incident. Members of the public are urged to contact nearest police station should they come into contact with the escapees.
UPDATE: It is believed that the two inmates used a sharp object to dig a hole through the wall of their cell in A Section. The object is believed to have been stolen from the prison’s workshop.
The convicts escaped on Tuesday night and prison officials found out about the escape this morning [Wednesday].
