ANC RETAINS LOCAL WARDS
The African National Congress (ANC) has managed to retain all the wards in Kaalfontein, Allandale, Ebony Park (KAE) and surrounding areas.
The Local Government Elections held on Monday were without incident in KAE and surrounding areas despite the very low voter turnout.
As at 07:00 on Friday, all voting districts in KAE’s votes have been counted except for Eqinisweni Secondary School in Ward 79, Ivory Park.
The incumbent party has retained Wards 111, 92, 77, 78, 80 and 133. This means that these wards in Kaalfontein, Ebony Park, Ivory Park and Rabie Ridge will all have ANC Ward Councillors for the next 5 years.
The second biggest party in KAE is the EFF and former Mayor Herman Mashaba’s party, Action SA, got the third highest number of votes.
At a municipality level, the ANC did not do so well. At the time of publishing, the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality was one of the country’s 52 hung municipalities with 98% of the votes having been audited, verified and captured.
The ANC has seen dwindling support with only 34% of the votes cast in its favour in Johannesburg . The Democratic Alliance (DA) received 25% of the votes while the new kids on the block, Action SA are currently third with 16% of the vote. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are in fourth place with nearly 11% of the City of Johannesburg vote.
There’s going to be a coalition government in the CoJ once again. This will likely be led by either the ANC or the DA. Therefore, it is not yet clear who will become the Mayor of Johannesburg.
Story developing.
