MALL OF AFRICA JEWELLERY ROBBERS CHASED FROM EBONY PARK TO MARLBORO
Swift police response to the incident of serious and violent crime led to the arrest of four suspects and recovery of expensive jewellery that was taken during the robbery of a jewellery shop in the Mall of Africa on Wednesday, 11 September 2019.
The armed gang shot at the police when they were intercepted in Marlboro and police returned fire resulting to one suspect being fatally shot and four arrested on the spot.
Police recovered high calibre firearm as they effect arrests. Jewellery that includes Rolex, Breitling, Omega and Tagheur watches were recovered.
Police received information about a business robbery that occurred at a jewellery shop at the Mall of Africa on Tuesday at about 19:30. The information was immediately operationalised and police started looking for the suspects.
The suspects driving in a BMW X5 were spotted in Ebony Park and chase ensued until at Marlboro Drive where the suspects started shooting at the police and the shootout followed. The suspects jumped out of the car and shootout continued resulting to one of the suspects fatally shot and four suspects arrested.
Police recovered high calibre rifle with life rounds of ammunition.
Upon searching the suspect’s vehicle police found watches that are believed to have been taken during the robbery.
The arrested suspects will face charges ranging from business robbery, attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property, reckless and negligent driving, possession of prohibited firearm and ammunitions.
“As we are intensifying our crime prevention operations, O Kae Molao, criminals will not hide because the space is getting smaller and smaller and we are urging members of the community to isolate criminals,” says the Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela.
