10 UNLICENCED FIREARMS REMOVED FROM THE STREETS

355 Suspects were arrested for various offenses from Friday to Sunday morning by members of SAPS and other stakeholders during their High Density operations conducted across Ekurhuleni Policing Precincts with a total of 10 unlicensed firearms removed from the streets in the District and 20 illegal shebeens shutdown.

Amongst others, 182 were nabbed by the Detectives during their suspects raiding operations, which included (105) for contact Crimes, (45) for other serious Crimes, (19) for Gender based Violence and (12) for property Crime.

In Tembisa South area , On Friday night , The Police received information regarding the suspect with a firearm who is robbing people on the streets at Entsonalanga section, Tembisa South.
The Police responded to the complaint and upon arrival they found the suspect (African male). His premises were searched and a black Norinco pistol loaded with 9 live ammunition was found. The suspect failed to produce the license for the firearm.

In Etwatwa area, on Friday, the Police embarked with their Operations at Barcelona area, Winnie Mandela in Etwatwa, they followed a tip off regarding suspects who committed business robberies at Winnie Mandela Section, Etwatwa and the suspects were gathered at one of the Taverns in Barcelona. Members proceeded to the address and upon arrival they found 3 suspects. One of the suspects was found with unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspects were taken to their residences and 4 laptops, 4 tablets cellphones, 2 key boards and a Passport were found. The 3 suspect’s were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and Possession of suspected stolen property.

In Benoni area on Friday night, the Police were doing patrols, whilst driving along Modder Road, they noticed a suspicious vehicle with two occupants changing the lanes and they stopped it. The occupants were searched and the African male passenger was found in possession of unlicensed firearm loaded with ammunition, the firearm ‘s serial number was erased. The suspect was then arrested and taken to Saps Benoni for detention.

In Crystal Park area on Friday 2024-09-06, members of Crime prevention received information regarding the suspect possessing a firearm. They proceeded to the address and upon arrival 2 Egyptian nationals were found . In one of the suspect ‘s room they found 4 live ammunition and in another one’ s room they found a Norinco pistol. Both of them failed to produce licenses to possess that Firearm and ammunition. Copper Cables were also confiscated from the suspects premises.

n Ivory Park area on Saturday 2024-09-07, members of sector Policing were patrolling in Ebony park, when they stopped and searched two suspicious African males. One of them was found with a revolver firearm loaded with 1 live round, and failed to produce the license for the firearm. He was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and another was arrested for interfering with Police duties.

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole thanked the members who swiftly responded in effecting the arrests as well as concerned Community members who don’t lose hope by working closely to the Police to ensure that criminals don’t get space to breathe in the District.
