336 SUSPECTS ARRESTED DURING FESTIVE SEASON OPERATIONS IN EKURHULENI
A total of 336 suspects were arrested over the weekend during police festive season operations across Ekurhuleni policing precincts, from Friday, 20 December, to Sunday morning. As part of the operations, 15 illegal shebeens were also shut down.
Breakdown of Arrests
• 169 suspects were apprehended by detectives during suspect-raiding operations, including:
• 113 for contact crimes.
• 36 for other serious crimes.
• 24 for gender-based violence.
• 7 for property crimes.
• 167 suspects were arrested by SAPS members and other law enforcement agencies during weekend operations across Ekurhuleni.
Ivory Park Operation Highlights
On Saturday, 21 December 2024, a major operation was conducted in Ivory Park, led by Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni. Key outcomes included:
• 21 illegal immigrants arrested.
• Recovery of a stolen vehicle reported in Roodepoort.
• Arrests for:
• 7 suspects for possession of drugs.
• 1 for possession of dagga.
• 5 for selling liquor without a license.
• 13 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
• 14 for public drinking.
• 6 for being drunk in public.
Brakpan Operation: Stolen Tyres Recovered
In Brakpan, on the same day, members of the Ekurhuleni Trio Task Team arrested three suspects linked to stolen tyres.
• Around 12:40, police patrolling along Hospital Road received information about a blue-and-purple Toyota Quantum pulling a trailer suspected of carrying stolen tyres.
• Police located the vehicle and questioned the suspects, who claimed to have purchased the tyres in Mpumalanga but failed to produce an invoice.
• Investigations revealed that the tyres were stolen during a business robbery in Middelburg, December 2024.
The suspects were arrested and detained in Brakpan.
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole, commended all law enforcement officers for their swift response and dedication. She also extended her gratitude to community members for their continued collaboration with the police to ensure criminals are brought to justice.
