“ALL HANDS ON DECK“ FOR 2024 ELECTIONS
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) launched its 2024 National and Provincial Elections programme on Tuesday, 24 October 2024, at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.
The political landscape in South Africa is gearing up for a significant transformation as the nation prepares for its seventh democratic National and Provincial Elections in 2024.
The signing of the Electoral Amendment Bill by President Cyril Ramaphosa on April 17, 2023, marks a remarkable milestone in the evolution of the country’s democracy. This development ushers in a new era, expanding electoral participation and widening the pool of leadership choices for voters nationwide.
National and Provincial elections allow South Africans to select representatives to serve in the National Assembly, responsible for crafting and implementing legislation and policies on a national scale, as well as in the nine (9) Provincial Legislatures.
One of the most significant changes brought about by the Electoral Amendment Bill is the inclusion of Independent Candidates in the electoral process. Independent Candidates will have the opportunity to vie for political office. This newfound inclusivity means that South Africans will be presented with three (3) separate ballot papers in the upcoming elections, granting them greater freedom in their choices.
The 2024 elections will play a crucial role in shaping the future of South Africa. These elections are scheduled to be held between May and August 2024, with the exact date to be announced by the President early in 2024. As the nation approaches this important moment, it is imperative that every eligible voter participates.
The (IEC) has been actively preparing to facilitate the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.
To help ensure that all eligible citizens can cast their votes, the IEC has designated November 18 and 19 as the registration weekend.
During this time, South Africans can register at one of the 23,269 voting stations that have been determined for the national and provincial elections.
It’s vital to note that you can still register to vote online by visiting the official registration portal: https://registertovote.elections.org.za/Welcome.
The 2024 elections are an opportunity for every South African to have their voice heard and to shape the future of their country. As the nation takes this step toward a more inclusive and diversified democracy, it is essential that all eligible voters participate and exercise their democratic rights. It’s a call to action – all hands on deck for the 2024 Elections!
