The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane and Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara launched the Grand Central Social Housing project in Midrand on Tuesday, 04 March 2025.
The Grand Central Social Housing is a complete project with 𝟵𝟵𝟬 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀 already tenanted.
It is a well-located project, adjacent to places of employment, social amenities and transport.
The project also provides good quality rental accommodation for the upper end of the low-income market, those earning less than R22,000.00, with the primary objective of urban restructuring, and creating sustainable human settlements.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to provide affordable rental housing in urban areas, allowing people to live closer to their workplaces without paying exorbitant costs.
One of the tenants, Valerie Nlapho says the facility is convenient for them
“We have a tuck shop here; we have a gym as well. So, we do not even have to leave the area. Everything is managed well, and issues are attended to as to when they arise. So far so good, we have not had many issues. I think they just need more space.”
