BREAKING NEWS: JOHANNESBURG MAYOR DIES

The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Geoff Makhubo has passed away. Makhubo was admitted to hospital recently with COVID-19.

The Acting-Executive Mayor and MMC for Health & Social Development, Cllr Eunice Mgcina, confirmed that the Mayor succumbed to COVID-19 this morning, 9 July 2021, after being in hospital for a while.

“We had hoped that the Executive Mayor would beat the virus and return to work and lead the city as we face this pandemic that has devastated lives and livelihoods. Sadly it was not to be.” said Mgcina.

The Acting-Executive Mayor added that the Office of the Executive Mayor and Speaker of Council will announce further details in due course.
