Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, is currently checking compliance in parts of the country to monitor if COVID-19 regulations are being adhered to as we are within the festive season.
It was the recently opened, Mall of Thembisa’s turn to be graced by the Minister’s presence yesterday, 18 December 2020. His entourage did an inspection of the Mall of Thembisa including the Imbizo Shisanyama at the mall.
Cele reminded shoppers to always adhere to COVID-19 protocols of wearing a face mask, sanitizing and maintaining a safe distance. The Minister and his entourage conducted a walkabout at the Mall where he addressed shoppers appealing to them to stay away from criminal activities but to instead work with the police to fight crime.
At the time of publishing, Gauteng had more than 250,000 coronavirus confirmed cases and 5,161 deaths. A new variant of COVID-19 has been discovered reportedly affecting youth with no underlying conditions. The Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, says that the second wave is driven by the new variant. There’s a rapid a spread of COVID-19 in Gauteng, Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal.
