COMMUNITY SAFETY IN IVORY PARK- TAKE CHARGE RELAUNCH

The MEC of Community Safety Faith Mazibuko and the Department were in Ivory Park 2 yesterday the 3rd of October 2019.

A gender based violence blitz and exhibition kicked off their visit in Ivory Park Ext 2 led by the MEC Faith Mazibuko. The blitz was held in the Ivory Park Taxi Rank.

The MEC walked the streets of Ivory Park in the afternoon and told community members about the role of the Department of Community Safety. The CPF (Community Policing Forum) was in attendance as a force multiplier in the fight against crime.

Meanwhile, a ladies soccer tournament also took place at Kopanong Sports Grounds. Participants were SAPS members from Ivory Park Police Station; students from Ivory Park Police Station and Ivory Park Community members.

Later in the afternoon a community meeting was held. The meeting was led by MEC Mazibuko at Ivory Park Community Hall. The meeting was held as part of the Take Charge Relaunch programme aimed at mobilizing communities against crime.

Mazibuko emphasised that policing is not only the role of the Police but the whole community. Community members are encouraged to report crime as soon as they happen.

The Ivory Park Police Station was the police station with the most incidents of house break ins reported in the recent crime statistics.

“Over 40 police officers have been deployed to come and work in this area since Ivory Park is one of the priority police station,” said MEC Faith Mazibuko.
