CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2019

The Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekge held an event for the best performing students today, 7th of January 2020 at Midrand.

At 6pm the Minister officially announced the results for the Class of 2019. The National Pass Rate for 2019 is 81,3%, the highest since our democracy in 1994. This is the first time in South Africa that the results are more than 80%. In 2018, the Matric pass rate was 78,2%.

All provinces obtained pass rates of more than 70%. Gauteng (87,2%) is the second best performing province after Free State (88,4%). The worst performing province this year is Limpopo (73,2%) while the most improved is the Eastern Cape (76,5%).

Gauteng also bagged 6 out of 10 best performing districts with the leading district being Tshwane South which optained a pass rate of 93,3%. The Gauteng Province also received the largest number of Bachelor passes which enable learners to go to University to study for an Undergraduate Degree.

The youngest student writing the National Senior Certificate was 15 and the oldest was 36 years old.

Candidates are urged to get their statement of results from the school where they wrote the exams.

Candidates can also get results by sending ID Number and Exam Number via SMS to 35658 or use USSD service and dial *120*35658#. Result queries must be submitted for investigation within 30 days after release of results.

Candidates must ensure that names and ID Numbers reflect correctly on their statement of results and report any corrections to the Department before 30/06/2020.
