A 17-year-old boy from Ivory Park’s ema 10 is behind bars for the alleged murder of his 16-months old nephew on Thursday, 02 November 2023.
The local police were called to what almost became a mob justice murder after the local community surrounded the boy with an intention of making him pay for his alleged cruelty to the minor who was left in his care by the child’s mother, a sibling to the suspect. The police arrived as the suspect was being assaulted.
The boy uncle is allegedly a drug addict and is alleged to have cut the toddler’s throat with a sharp object. It is not yet clear what was behind this barbaric act. The police arrived on time in what could have been a mob justice related murder. The suspect is behind bars pending his next appearance in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face a murder charge.
Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, is deeply saddened by this family tragedy.
“Preliminary information suggests that the boy is an addict, something that places an additional responsibility on the family to never leave such a person in such a responsible position- that of guarding a minor,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
The brigadier thanked his officers for their timely response to the incident as this could have been a murder right there and then.
