The Gauteng MECs of Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko and Education, Panyaza Lesufi are currently embarking on a door to door in Tembisa.
The door to door is to encourage the community to test at the Gauteng Government’s mobile testing site at Phumulani Mall. The mobile site is set up to screen and test the community for COVID-19. This follows the unprecedented rolling out of a screening, testing and medical management programme on a large scale announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on the 30th of March 2020.
The MECs will be joining health workers in Phumulani Mall, Winnie Mandela Taxi Rank, Mega City and Clayville. Nearby Bophelong Clinic is one of the Clinics identified by the City of Johannesburg for COVID-19 testing. This morning more than 100 people were waiting to be assisted. The clinic is mindful of social distancing and patients were standing in a queue 1 meter apart.
One of the patients at the clinic who refused to be named said “I have symptoms of the coronavirus. I read that symptoms include loss of breath and sore throat so I want to check if I don’t have this disease so I can protect myself and family.”
