CRIME STATS IN KAE AND SURROUNDING AREAS
The Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, released the third quarter crime statistics on Friday, 21 February 2025, providing a comprehensive overview of crime trends across South Africa.
The latest statistics cover the period from October to December 2024, offering insights into crime patterns in various regions, including KAE and surrounding areas such as Ivory Park, Tembisa, Tembisa South, Rabie Ridge, and Midrand.

The five police stations in focus—Ivory Park, Tembisa, Tembisa South, Rabie Ridge, and Midrand—remain among the busiest in Gauteng. Contact Crimes (Crimes Against Persons)
Contact crimes, which include murder, attempted murder, assault, and robbery, remain a significant concern in KAE and surrounding areas.

- Tembisa: 1,096 cases (+13.3%)
- Ivory Park: 925 cases (+5.2%)
- Midrand: 1,620 cases (-18.3%)
- Tembisa South and Rabie Ridge also recorded notable numbers, though slightly lower than the primary hotspots.
Murder Cases:
- Ivory Park: 45 cases (-4 cases from last year)
- Tembisa: Among high-risk areas but did not feature in the top 30 nationwide.
Attempted Murder Cases:
- Ivory Park: 50 cases (+51.5%)
- Tembisa: 44 cases (+11 cases from last year)
Sexual Offences:
- Ivory Park: 76 cases (+43.4%)
- Tembisa: 55 cases (+12.2%)
- Midrand and Rabie Ridge also recorded an increase in sexual offenses, highlighting the need for continued intervention and awareness programs.
Property-Related Crimes
Crimes such as burglary, theft of motor vehicles, and theft from motor vehicles continue to be a challenge:
- Midrand: Recorded a high number of car thefts and residential burglaries.
- Tembisa South and Rabie Ridge: Showed a decline in house break-ins, indicating increased community vigilance and policing efforts.
