Former City of Johannesburg Mayor, Democratic Alliance’s Dr Mpho Phalatse has been removed by a motion of no confidence on Friday, 30 September 2022.
Phalatse went to court on Friday morning to try to stop the motion of no confidence from proceeding. The Johannesburg High Court ruled that the urgent application bought by the Executive Mayor Mpho Phalatse be struck off the court roll with costs.
This led to the African National Congress’s (ANC) Dada Morero being elected as the new Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg unopposed.
The motion to have Phalatse removed went through with 139 councillors supporting it while DA councillors were not in attendance.
The CoJ multi-party coalition government has seemingly collapsed . This comes after COPE’s Colleen Makhubele was elected new Speaker on Wednesday. She replaced DA councillor Vasco da Gama, who was voted out last month.
New Joburg Mayor, Dada Morero said the ANC will put the interest of the people first.
