The Economic Freedom Fighters in the Ekurhuleni Municipality marched to the Tembisa Hospital on Friday the 8th of February 2020.
The protest action started at the Winnie Mandela Clinic and proceeded to the Tembisa Hospital. A memorandum of grievances was delivered to officials from the Gauteng Department of Health. Amongst the grievances contained in the memorandum included allegations of sexual harassment levelled at the management of the Hospital to be resolved and demanding accountability for the negligent death of 10 infants.
KAE News reported that 10 babies died at Tembisa Hospital’s neonatal unit late last year, due to a Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) outbreak. The fighters claimed this was the Hospital’s negligence and the blame should be placed at the Department of Health’s door.
The Ekurhuleni EFF has also claimed that the careless nature of some of the Tembisa Hospital staff led to the ultimate death of a boy. Thabang Senaone’s family have not been provided with the results of the Post Mortem until today.
The Red Berets have vowed to follow up on the grievances until they are all met.
