FOURTH SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR SELLING HOUSE FRAUDULENTLY

The hunt for the fourth man in connection with the fraudulent selling of an RDP house in Esselen Park has borne fruit when a 28-year-old man was arrested in Mamelodi on Thursday morning, 09 November 2023.

Ivory Park detectives pounced on the man who will join his three (3) alleged accomplices to answer why they sold an RDP house to two people which neither of them own.

This fraudulent transaction took place late last year and the 3 suspects were arrested in February and March this year. They are out on bail.

One of the suspects is the son of the owner of the house. The latest arrestee will made his first court appearance on Thursday and will join others on 28 November 2023 to collectively answer to a charge of fraud.

The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed this arrest as it clearly demonstrates that officers are committed to ensuring that victims of crime get redress and alleged perpetrators are made to account.

“We want to understand how this was carried out, and to discourage others from engaging in fraudulent activities,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.

However potential buyers are encouraged to check on the legitimacy of the sale before committing their hard earned cash as failure to do so will be too costly for them.

As part of the checks, first it is important to verify if the seller’s names appear on the housing department’s details (deeds office) and those of the municipality. Accompany the seller to these departments to avoid fraudulently printed papers.

And if the seller is an agent his name should appear on the database of the relevant bodies which regulates the trade. This will then mean that you are dealing with a credible individual.
