FROM SHIPPING CONTAINER TO BUSY CORNER

On Saturday the 9th of November 2019 we attended Rita Zwane’s book launch. Ma Zwane is the founder of Imbizo Shisanyama (Busy Corner)in Ebony Park.

Her story is inspirational. It all began in 1997 when Rita, affectionately known as MaZwane, opened a small eatery in Ivory Park, Tembisa that sold pap and vleis (corn porridge and meat in Afrikaans) on the go.

A former receptionist and waitress, she had a vision of formalising the shisanyama industry and today this sector is one of the fastest growing in SA. Affectionately known as “Busy Corner” Imbizo Shisanyama, the eatery, has become a social networking place and the economic hub of the burgeoning township.

The book reveals a township entrepreneur’s struggles and triumphs. “Conquering The Poverty Of The Mind” is Rita’s personal journey and experiences.

“For me understanding my footprint was always about going back to my roots. My roots needed to define what I wanted to offer and what I wanted people to feel when they walk in here at Busy Corner “.

The book will be available from tomorrow at bookstores nation wide. It is published by Tracy McDonald Publishers and costs R260.
