GBV CAMPAIGN AT MPUMELELO CLINIC

Members of the Ivory Park SAPS’S Social Crime Prevention Desk have today embarked on a Gender Based Violence awareness campaign at the local Mpumelelo Clinic in Ivory Park Extension Three.

Part of the reason the clinic was targeted is due to the high number of people coming in for health care services and the police thought it prudent to visit as they will be able to reach a sizeable number of people, those that are there for health care and those that are accompanying their loved ones.

Those who were passing by received pamphlets and had their questions answered by the officers, led by Captain Nozipho Makhoba, the head of Social Crime prevention in Ivory Park.

The officers distributed pamphlets, had one on one with them. Residents were notified of the kind of assistance that is available at the local police station in cases where they found themselves in the middle of a domestic violence situations.

Neighbours and loved ones were encouraged against remaining silent whenever they witnessed their neighbours or family being abused.

Victims of domestic violence were encouraged to speak out, to never suffer in silence and to let their families know of the situations they are in and to seek help from the police station or any facility that is there to deal with their situations.
