Local detectives have on Tuesday night, 06 September 2022, arrested a 24year old woman from Ivory Park 2 for the alleged murder of her live in boyfriend.
“The couple’s fight started when the deceased demanded to go through her girlfriend’s phone. It seemed he was suspecting her of cheating on him. The lady was having none of this and, it is alleged, the 25 year old deceased began to assault her with fists, preventing her from leaving their shared room,” said the spokesperson of Ivory Park SAPS, Captain Ben Matimulane.
“It was during this fighting that the lady reached for the knife, stabbed the man once on the abdomen. He died a short while later at a local clinic”, Matimulane said.
The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has expressed shock at this death which, he says, could be avoidable if people in relationships could learn to look for signs of a potential abuser. More often victims tend to ignore these signs. They need not be ignored.
“Going through someone’s phone without their consent, deciding who they can relate and not relate with are some of the signs ( commonly known in township iskhwele),” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
It is advisable that when in such a situation the person should seek assistance as soon as possible to avoid a tragedy such as this.
The suspect will appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to answer to a charge of murder.
