HONOURING SERGEANT KUTU
Sergeant Malesela Abel Kutu, stationed at SAPS Ivory Park in Gauteng, was born on 8 February 1980.
Tragically, he lost his life at the age of 43 on 24 October 2023 due to murder.
Sergeant Kutu was married and had three children, the youngest one years old at the time of his passing.
He joined the South African Police Service on 9 January 2006, and served the communities of Gauteng with dedication for 17 years.
In the early hours of Tuesday, 24 October 2023, around 01:00, Sergeant Kutu and his colleagues were performing their crime prevention duties within the Ivory Park policing precinct.
They were approached by a complainant reporting an attempted carjacking.
While following up on this report in Ebony Park Extension 1, Sergeant Kutu and his colleagues were ambushed by four armed suspects who opened fire on them.
Sergeant Kutu sustained fatal gunshot wounds to his eye and head. He was taken by ambulance to Ebony Park Clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival.
Sergeant Kutu served the community where he was stationed with pride.
Rest in peace, Sergeant Kutu. Though you are no longer with us, you will never be forgotten.
He will be honured on National Commemoration Day on the 1st of September 2024.
