City Power today, 17 June 2020, initiated an operation to cut off illegal electricity connections in Rabie Ridge, Mayibuye, Kanana and Marikana. The joint operation was conducted by City Power in collaboration with the South African National Defense Force (SANDF), South African Police Services (SAPS), Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
Rabie Ridge has been a victim of countless trips and failure of equipment since the winter season began. Illegal connections are the primary cause of overloading that leads to power outages.
An empty house was found with bundles of cables during the operation. The cables are similar to those used by City Power and Eskom and are used in Illegal Connections.
