Eskom Rolls Out Smart Meters Post Key Revision Number 2 Upgrade
Eskom is launching a prepaid Smart Meter installation project in Gauteng for customers who lost or damaged their meters after the Key Revision Number (KRN) 2 prepaid meter upgrade in 2024.
Purpose of the rollout:
• Reduce energy losses due to meter tampering, bypassing, and illegal connections.
• Protect electricity infrastructure and prevent prolonged outages.
Technicians will visit customer premises for installation or replacement. No cash payments should be made to technicians or contractors.
Benefits of Smart Meters:
• Allows users to buy electricity as needed.
• Helps manage electricity consumption efficiently.
This initiative is developed by Gauteng Communication & Stakeholder Management at Eskom.
