Detectives from the Ekurhuleni District’s Family Violence, Child Protection and Family Violence (FCS) unit have on Tuesday, 16 March 2021, arrested an Ivory Park man for the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl.
“The suspect and the parents of the victim are all tenants at the same place in Ivory Park’s Extension Eight. The suspect, 36, is alleged to have on two occasions raped the victim while her mother was not around.” said the Ivory Park SAPS spokesperson, Captain Ben Matimulane.
“This ordeal became too much for the little girl, who informed her teacher at her school, who then informed a social worker. It was these two professionals who brought it to the mother’s attention the horror her little daughter had endured.” added Matimulane.
The suspect has been charged with two counts of rape and is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court today, 18 March 2021.
The Acting Station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Colonel Baba Mpotoane, is saddened by the incident and is calling on parents to consider their children’s security whenever they are going out.
“For children to be less vulnerable to dangerous situations they must NOT be left at home or elsewhere where they can become susceptible to any form of abuse, alcohol and drugs.” cautioned Colonel Mpotoane.
