Ivory Park Times

Detectives from the Ivory Park SAPS have on Friday, 14 January 2022, arrested a 33-year-old man from Extension 15, Ivory Park’s Fear Fokol’s informal settlement for a mob related murder.

The suspect was picked up at his home following investigations into what happened in the early hours of the 11th of January, when a man in his 20s was severely assaulted by a mob after they accused him of attempting to steal property and attempting to rape a woman in the same area he is residing at.

“The suspect was taken to his place of residence while being assaulted and then taken to another place where the assault continued. He succumbed to his injuries  and was declared dead at the scene. Other suspects alleged to have participated in the murder have been identified and the police are onto their trail.” said Captain Ben Matimulane of the Ivory Park SAPS.

The acting station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Colonel Baba Mpotoane, has welcomed this arrest, and the anticipated arrests as they will clearly send a strong message that mob injustice will never be acceptable under any circumstance.

“We will continue to advise people to work  with us through the proper structures so that alleged transgressors of the law are brought to account in a lawful manner. Assaulting and beating people to death is unlawful and is totally unacceptable,” said Colonel Mpotoane.

The suspect in custody is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face a murder charge.
