The recently elected, Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg is no more. Jolidee Matongo was involved in a car accident after electioneering in Soweto on Saturday.
Matonga visited Soweto on Saturday, 18 September 2021, as part of the African National Congress (ANC) campaign for Local Government Elections Registration Weekend.
The programme was led by ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa; ANC Gauteng Chairperson and Premier, David Makhura and ANC Acting Chairperson in Johannesburg, Eunice Mgcina.
Matonga (46) was elected on the 10th of August 2021 and replaced Geoff Makhubo who succumbed to COVID-19 in July.
Before assuming the City of Johannesburg Mayorship. Matonga was the MMC of Finance.
The Mayor was scheduled to open an Opportunity Centre in Ivory Park on Monday, 20 September 2021.
