Today, the 5th of February 2020 the Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Geoff Makhubo launched the city-wide campaign to ‘wage a war on potholes .
The Mayor is on an ambitious mission to eliminate all potholes in Johannesburg by the end of his term next year. Speaking on the sidelines of the campaign in Alexandra. Makhubo said “The campaign is to reverse the decay in our roads. This is a war we will win.”
Meanwhile in Ebony Park. Officials from the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), Pikitup and City Power were conducting the war on potholes campaign.
JRA filled potholes in Camelia Street (near Triple Garage). KAE News visited the area however the street still had patches of potholes.
Pikitup cleared illegal dumping in the vacant land at Ebony Park Extension 5 (ariel) and on the bridge at Camelia Street. Disappointingly, not even after 6 hours the officals had left, the places were littered with rubbish.
City Power offials also did street lights maintainance along Camelia and Umhluthi Streets.
The City of Johannesburg promises to fix all reported potholes by the community. Report existing potholes to hotline@jra.org.za or 0860 562 874 or Tweet @myjra.
We will test this promise and report a pothole in KAE on our Twitter account.
