Yesterday we reported that the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Municipality Herman Mashaba would officially open the pedestrian bridge in Kaalfontein.
Members of other political parties were present in the auspicious occasion including INkatha Freedom Party (IFP) MP and Scopa Chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa, Economic Freedom Fighters Councilors Spetletle Raseruther and John Mnisi and the ANC Ward 92 Councilor Violet Chauke.
The bridge is 102 meters long and 3,5 meters wide and it will connect Kaalfontein Extension 2 and 5.
The project was spearheaded by Johannesburg Roads Agency which saw the need to construct a bridge over Kaalspruit to provide a safe passageway to the neighbouring communities and pupils to safely go to school.
Additional work to be done on the bridge include installation of street lights, road layer works, paving and storm water drainage system which are currently underway.
A total of 34 local EPWP participants and a minimum of 4 emerging sub-contractors were involved . Additional local sub-contractors from the community were also engaged for Security Services Accredited training.
