KAALFONTEIN MAN IN CUSTODY FOR POSSESSION OF ESKOM CABLES
A 28 year-old man from Kaalfontein is being processed by the Detectives from the Ekurhuleni District’s Trio Task Team for possession of a cable belonging to Eskom.
“The suspect was apparently found by employees from the said company and the Metro Police. He was found in possession of the three metre cable, exclusively used by Eskom, and he was unable to explain how the property came to be in his possession” said Captain Ben Matimulane, the spokesperson of Ivory Park SAPS.
The Ekurhuleni District’s officer, who have a unit aimed at addressing this form of economic sabotage, came to interview and process the suspect in order to ensure that the suspect faced the full force of the law.
“Any recepient of this property will be dealt with accordingly. We are coming after everyone involved in this form of economic sabotage” said Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS.
“Scrapyard owners must cease to buy these items as they create a market for illicit goods to flourish while the rest of the population suffers due to [power] cuts,” Brigadier Ngcobo added.
The suspect will face a charge of tempering with essential infrastructure, a very serious offence.
