Kaalfontein- The Councilor of Ward 111, Clr Raisibe Matsemela, called a public meeting yesterday the 29th of August 2019.
The Community meeting which lasted more than 2 hours was held in the school hall of Oracle Secondary School and along with 111 neighboring wards of 92, 110 and 79 were also in attendance.
Under discussion was updates of Ebony Park-Kaalfontein Clinic, Ebony Mall, Eskom and other projects that are underway.
EBONY MALL
The contractors of the mall Conrad, John and Andries were in attendance and fielded questions from the community. The main issue discussed was local employment.
They mentioned that the Ebony Mall will have 35 stores in total and that 3 units remain available. Some of the tenants that will be in Ebony Mall include Pick n Pay, Cashbuild, PEP, KFC, Ackermans and others.
KAE News understands that Cashbuild and KFC have already took resident’s CVs.
Close to R120 million has been invested in the Mall. The community requested that skills transfer must be taken into consideration and they must be funds set up for Corporate Social Responsibility in terms of assisting with the building of the Ebony Park Sports Ground aka Loftus.
The Mall contractors mentioned that 32 protest actions were recorded in the year and appealed to the community to follow formal processes and not to always resort to strikes.
The Mall is set to be complete by the 21st of October 2019
ELECTRIFICATION OF LINDOKUHLE
Eskom Project Manager for the electrification of Lindokuhle gave community update. Next week Tuesday, the 3rd of September 2019, Eskom will introduce the Community Liason Officer and Main Contractor of the project to the community. The project aims to provide 500 informal settlements with electricity for the first time.
Furthermore, Lindokuhle will also get 200 mobile toilets. This project will be under Johannesburg Water and will ensure that the right of water and sanitation to community members is met.

The meeting nearly collapsed when a fight ensued and chairs were thrown amongst members of the community. This was an isolated incident and meeting continued.
EBONY PARK-KAALFONTEIN CLINIC
The Clinic will operate 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. A decision was made to move the clinic from the Municipality to the Province as the municipality does not have the capacity to operate a 24/7 clinic. Machines are currently being installed. The clinic will fall under the Gauteng Department of Health.
We previously advertised posts of Cleaners, Clerks and Nurses and the posts have been overwhelmingly applied for. Successful candidates will be contacted in due course. Posts that are still going to be advertised include Porters, Social Workers, Psychologists, Dentists and Emergency Officials.
The Gauteng Department of Health will vIsit the hospital on the 17th of September 2019 and more information will be given around the opening date.
