KAE Then & Now: Busy Corner Still Busy?

If you’ve been around KAE long enough, you’ll remember a time when Busy Corner—now the location of Busy Corner Mall—was just an open veld. Residents used to refer to this busy intersection at Republic Road and 29 September Drive as “Busy Corner” long before it became the bustling commercial hub it is today.

Flashback to 2009:
Back in the day, this stretch of land was mainly a shortcut for those walking between Ivory Park and Ebony Park. At night, the area was also used as a parking lot for taxis from the Ivory Park Taxi Association. No malls, no garages, just an open veld with nothing but potential.

Fast Forward 15 Years:
Today, that empty field has become the site of Busy Corner Mall, a thriving retail center employing hundreds of people from the local community. The Mall’s anchor tenants include Pick n Pay and Cashbuild, among many others. There’s even a BP Garage and a popular nightspot called Granite, which has become a landmark for nightlife in the area.

What was once a quiet corner where taxis rested has now become a cornerstone of economic activity in KAE. The area continues to attract foot traffic, staying true to its name—Busy Corner.

And let’s not forget the much-loved community events that take place here, like the Fun Fest! Hosted by KAE Events, this bi-annual festival brings together locals for fun, food, and entertainment—proving that this corner of KAE still has so much to offer.
