KAE Then & Now: ZCC Church, Kaalfontein

Kgotsong!

Our next feature takes us to the ZCC Church at the corner of Angelfish Street and Glassnose Street, Kaalfontein.

In 2010, this site had a modest structure, but today it has multiple buildings and a proper wall enclosing the area. Despite the growth, some things remain unchanged — like the green and yellow paint that symbolizes the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) and the church’s deep-rooted presence in the community.

The ZCC, founded in 1910 by Engenas Lekganyane, is one of the largest Christian movements in Southern Africa. Known for its faith-healing, prophecy, and the blending of Christianity with African traditions, the church continues to play a significant role in its member’s lives. With its iconic star, the ZCC fosters a sense of belonging and discipline.

As we witness the expansion of its structures, the church’s spiritual core remains strong — a place of gathering, faith, and tradition for many in our community.
