KEEP KAE KLEAN

Waste pollution is a major problem in our community of Kaalfontein, Allandale and Ebony Park. This is why one of our missions at KAE News is a litter free community.

Exposure to hazardous waste can affect human health, children being more vulnerable to these pollutants. Waste affects the environment and humans. Ĺ

Today, the 15th of February 2020 Pikitup, which is the waste collection company for the City of Johannesburg went on a ‘Kleena Joburg’ cleaning campaign. The Pikitup Midrand Depot team cleaned the streets of ward 110 in Mayibuye and Ivory Park together with the community and Councilors Lamula and Makamo.

In an example of active citizenry the Hope Restoration Ministries church also cleaned Ebony Park today. Just last week the community of Kaalfontein cleaned up rubbish near ZCC. However, it is dissapointing that the areas cleaned go back to being dumping sites after a few days. Pikitup should ensure that it sticks to waste collection days and installs public bins in our community’s hotspots.

One thing the African National Congress (ANC) has learned from Herman Mashaba’s coalition government is to lead by example. It is good to see ANC councillors get their hands dirty and clean with the community. The City’s #KleenaJoburg campaign is similar to the former Mayor’s #AreSebetseng cleaning campaign.

Illegal dumping is a criminal offence which may lead to prosecution and a fine. To report illegal dumping to Pikitup, call 011 688 1500
