LOAD REDUCTION TO BE INTENSIFIED

Eskom will implement load reduction on Wednesday morning the 12th of May 2021. The Load Reduction will affect parts of Kaalfontein, Ebony Park, Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge, Lindokuhle and Tswelopele. The load reduction is expected to be for 4 hours from 05:00 until 09:00.

This comes as the Power Utility has warned customers of a significant rise in network overloading. Now that temperatures are dropping, Eskom in Gauteng has noted a significant rise in network overloading as a result of illegal electricity across the province.

Accordingly, Eskom will “have to intensify load reduction in order to protect assets from repeated failures and transformer explosions.” This means that load reduction will occur more frequently and will now affect more areas than usual.

Furthermore, at the time of publishing, hundreds of households have been affected by transformer failures in Kaalfontein, Allandale, Ebony Park (KAE) and surrounding areas with no restoration of the electricity supply forthcoming.

Eskom says that to avoid unnecessary disconnection and load reduction, customers are urged to manage their consumption carefully, ensure that the electricity is paid for and bought from legal vendors, and to report illegal activities.

“We urge our customers to cooperate with us by buying legal tokens, paying for their consumption, stop tampering with the electricity meters, and switch off non essential appliances so that they can have a good electricity supply this winter. Those who continue tampering , or buying from illegal vendors will unfortunately be disconnected and will have to pay the full reconnection fee before they can be reconnected”, said Daphne Mokwena, the Gauteng Operating Unit Senior Manager for Customer Service.

To report illegal connections call 0800 112 722 or SMS 32211.
