MAN BURNT BEYOND RECOGNITION AT WINNIE MANDELA

On Tuesday morning, 12 July 2022, at about 08:00 Tembisa Sector Teams received a complaint of a burning shack in Winnie Mandela Zone 3.

On arrival , the police noticed that three shacks attached to each other were burnt down.

“The residents in the same yard further confirmed that, in the morning there was loadshedding and when the electricity came back, they heard a loud bang coming out from one of the shacks where there is a DB box, followed by blazes of fire.” said Constable Patricia Mgijima the spokesperson of Tembisa SAPS.

“They all woke up in the yard and tried to save their lives with the neighbours also helping to extinguish the fire. They then noticed that one of the tenants, a 22 year old gentleman could not manage to escape the fire as there is a burglar proof door and small windows,” Mgijima added.

According to the tenants from the same yard, the deceased had arrived few weeks ago with his friend from rural areas and had just got a job.

The cause of the explosion of the DB box is currently unknown pending the Ekurhuleni Energy Department.

The name of the deceased is withheld until the family is informed. Ekurhuleni Ward 89 Councillor Tswarelo Pudi also visited the scene and offered his condolences to the bereaved family.

Police are investigating a Case of Inquest.
