Shaune Mogaila, Sekhukhune United soccer player, has been granted R20,000 bail after his first court appearance at Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on charges of culpable homicide, reckless, and negligent driving.
His next scheduled court appearance is on 4 February 2025.
The charges stem from a tragic accident on Andrew Mapheto Road, Tembisa, where Mogaila’s BMW collided with a Hyundai carrying a mother, her child and a next door neighbour.
The crash claimed the life of nine-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela, while her mother and a 13-year-old were hospitalized. Mogaila allegedly fled the scene, later handing himself over to Rabie Ridge Police Station.
The case has garnered significant public attention, especially after it was reported that police found bottles of alcohol and suspected narcotics in Mogaila’s vehicle.
As the legal process unfolds, the Tembisa community and soccer fans await further developments on the case.
