MORE THAN 2,000 CORONAVIRUS CASES, 24 DEATHS AND 410 RECOVERIES IN SOUTH AFRICA

Coming after the 14 days extension of the lockdown announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa last night. Today, 10 April 2020, the Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that they’re 2,003 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Africa and 410 people have recovered from the virus.

Unfortunately, the Minister also announced that they are now 24 deaths related to the coronavirus an increase of 6 deaths from previously reported covid-19 statistics. KwaZulu-Natal has seen 12 people lose their lives because of the virus.

Mkhize said that it is important to note that, except for 2 cases, people who have died due to the virus are over the age of 63. “We are also seeing people with co existing diseases succumb quicker” said the Minister.

The Minister went on to thank the President for the extension of the lockdown. “It is important to know there is scientific basis and support for the extension of the lockdown announced by the President.”

The number of new daily positive cases since the lockdown has significantly decreased. South Africa has flattened the increase in cases compared to other countries. In the two weeks before the lockdown, the average daily increase in new cases was around 42%. Since the start of the lockdown, the average daily increase has been around 4%.

The public is urged to continue staying home and practice good hygiene.
