Ivory Park SAPS Detectives have on Monday arrested a man alleged to have committed a murder in November last year in Extension Two, Ivory Park.
“Initial investigations by the local detectives show that the suspect and the victim were persons familiar with each other. What is not clear as yet is what led to the fatal shooting during which the suspect is alleged to have shot the 31 year old victim three times in the head. The officers have been relentless in their search for the suspect and, with the help of informers, managed to learb of the suspect’s presence in the area.” said the Ivory Park SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Ben Matimulane.
“The murder weapon is yet to be found but, based on the information at their disposal, our detectives are confident that they have arrested the right suspect and are ready to go eyeball to eyeball with him in a court of law.” Matimulane added.
“We welcome this arrest and we are already working hard to establish if this suspect may be linked to any or some.of the numerous cases of murder in that area or anywhere else” said Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS.
The suspect will make his first court appearance in the Tembisa Magistrate Court some time this week.
The Ivory Park Policing Precinct has become the murder capital of Gauteng Province. According to the latest crime statistics released by the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele. Ivory Park had the highest murder rate in the province with 40 reported murders during the first 3 months of the year which is an increase of 21 mourners from last year. The Ivory Park Police Precinct include the townships of Ivory Park, Kaalfontein, Ebony Park, Tswelopele, Duduza and Clayville Ext 45.
