ONE OF ROSETTENVILLE 25 ARRESTED IN TEMBISA
Members of the Gauteng Special Law Enforcement Unit (SLEU), South African Police Service (SAPS), Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) and Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) have arrested a suspect in Tembisa linked to the Rosettenville CIT incident on Wednesday , 23 February 2022.
This is according to the the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) of Community Safety in Gauteng, Faith Mazibuko.
“The suspect is believed to be the one who shot at the police helicopter” said Mazibuko.
The law enforcement officials also recovered four (4) firearms, ammunition, SAPS and G4S bulletproof vests, one (1) R4 Riffle and two (2) R5 rifles.
This brings the number of suspects behind bars to 11. At least 5 are still on the run while 9 were fatally shot on Monday afternoon.
Police intercepted a gang of about 25 gunmen from KwaZulu-Natal (4), Zimbabwe (20) and Botswana (1) while planning a cash-in-transit heist in Rosettenville on Monday.
“The suspects were arrested for conspiracy to conduct armed robbery, attempted murder, possession of illegal guns and ammunition, possession of a stolen vehicle, and police impersonation,” said David Makhura, the Premier of Gauteng in a statement.
