Yesterday, 21 January 2021, was chaotic at the Ebony Park Pay Point offices in Acacia Street. Residents stood in long lines in the burning sun for hours waiting for their turn to receive the new Pikitup 240L wheelie bins.
COVID-19 social distancing protocols were not being adhered to. Some community members forcefully took bins from the Pikitup truck. Police were called in to maintain order and no injuries were reported.
Pikitup employees are not coming back to Ebony Park due to yesterday’s chaos of stealing bins. In a text to the Ward 111 Councilor, Clr Raisibe Matsemela, Pikitup management says 80% of community in the ward have received the Pikitup Bins in 2015 and asked those that haven’t received bins as yet to contact Pikitup on 011 055 5990.
Pikitup employees will no longer be collecting the old bins and refuse bags. KAEns who have received the new bins are advised to clearly mark the new bins with their respective house numbers as they has been reports of the new bins being stolen.
