PIKITUP ROLLS OUT 35 000 WASTE BINS IN MIDRAND
On Monday, 14 September 2020, the City of Johannesburg MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Clr Mpho Moerane commenced with the Pikitup roll out of 240 litre bins in Midrand.
Pikitup is undertaking the project to replace the 85 litre bins with 240 litre bins in Ivory Park, Rabie Ridge, Commercia and Mayibuye. Some residents in the targeted areas are still using plastic bags. The 85 litre bins are replaced because they are outdated and are too heavy for Pikitup waste collection staff to handle. Whilst the 240 litre bins are easier to manage and have wheels.
Residents were provided with the new Bins at the Ivory Park North Community Hall. The bins are still going to be issued to residents of the above areas. Residents are requested to bring along their City of Johannesburg statement or proof of address. Application forms will be available to residents during the roll out campaign before they are furnished with the new 240 litre bins at the Ivory Park North Hall.
The MMC urged residents to use the bins for their intended purpose to reduce incidents of illegal dumping. After distributing the bins to residents the Pikitup Midrand Depot team led by MMC Moerane cleaned the streets of Ivory Park. This was part of the City of Johannesburg’s “Kleener Joburg” campaign.
Other City of Joburg departments that were in Ivory Park on Monday include City Power, Johannesburg Water, Library Services, City Parks and Zoo and others.
