POLICE ARREST SUSPECT FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF FIREARM AND AMMUNITION AT WINNIE MANDELA

Police from Tinmyne, Limpopo in conjuction with Tembisa Sector Team members arrested one suspect for possession of unlicenced firearms and live ammunition on Monday, 14 February 2022.

Warrant Officer Sekaya with his team from Tinmyne SAPS, Limpopo alleged that in November 2021, three cases of house robbery and murder were reported at Tinmyne where a Metro Police Officer was shot several times and killed in one of the three robberies.

According to the eyewitness, it was alleged that the five suspects were driving a white Citi Golf 1 with unknown registration numbers. A dedicated team of detectives managed to arrest two suspects within seven days after the incident.

With the ongoing investigation, the police were led to a house in Atteridgeville, Pretoria where a 38 year old suspect pointed the police to a house in Tembisa where his accomplice was found.

“At about 05:00 in the morning,Tinmyne police asked for backup from Tembisa Sergeant ME Manamela, Sergeant SD Makgoka and Cst Netshitangani and proceeded to Winnie Mandela, Zone 8 where the suspect refused to open and the police had to break open the door” said the spokesperson of the Tembisa SAPS, Constable Patricia Mgijima.

“He was found hiding in the ceiling. He later pointed the four 9mm firearms with all their serial numbers filed off, four magazines and a total of two hundred and eight (208) 9mm rounds of live ammunition” Mgijima added.

The suspect was detained at Tembisa SAPS and will appear before the Tembisa Magistrates Court to answer to the charge of being in possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition.

Both suspects will then be linked to the main charge of house robbery and murder as per Tinmyne case.
