POLICE MONITOR COMPLIANCE OF LOCKDOWN REGULATIONS

A total strength of 45 SAPS members and 19 vehicles comprising of Tembisa SAPS members, Gauteng Traffic Police and EMPD paraded at Tembisa SAPS for a special operation that lasted 12 hours from 06:00 until 18:00.

The focus was the monitoring of Disaster Management Act compliance, roadblocks and visibility around the Tembisa policing area.

Two roadblocks were conducted, one at C/O R562 and Madiba Drive Winnie Mandela while the second was at Andrew Mapheto Drive, Makhulong Section next to the stadium where first division soccer between Swallows and Real Kings football clubs were playing.

A total of 32 traffic fines were issued to motorists amounting to R11500, 197 vehicles and 358 people searched. The police visited 9 filing stations, all the shopping malls and complexes in the vicinity during their patrols.

Three suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property while two were arrested for the contravention of Disaster Management Act-selling cigarettes.

Police also arrested a 39 year old suspect at Enxiweni Section, Tembisa for Assault under Domestic Violence. It is alleged that the police were busy patrolling when they were stopped by the members of community who were fuming promising to take the law into their own hands. They pointed a man who was allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and that they were tired of this as it has been happening quite often. The suspect was immediately arrested and detained at Tembisa SAPS and the complainant opened the case and advised of all other remedies concerning domestic violence.

All the arrested suspects will appear in the Tembisa Magistrates court on tomorrow.
