The station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has applauded a successful joint operation held by the SAPS’S Anti corruption Unit, Gauteng Highway Patrol and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s Special Task Team which netted two men and recovery of three firearms and 24 rounds of live ammunition.
“The police got wind of the fact that some criminal elements were about to get up to some mischief involving firearms. The police laid in wait and immediately the vehicle which suited the description settled within the parking lot of a shopping centre in Ebony Park, the police pounced,” said Captain Ben Matimulane of Ivory Park SAPS.
The police recovered three 9 mm pistols plus 24 rounds of live ammunition. All the firearms’ had their serial numbers filed off.
The suspects are from Ivory Park and are 46 and 53 years old.
“This time of year demands that we as law enforcement agencies be on high alert, considering the fact that criminals are continously on the prowl for items and properties not belonging to them,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
The two men will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Further investigations into these men and their other intentions will form part of an ongoing investigation.
They are due to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court as soon as this week to answer to the charges levelled against them.
