PRINCIPAL MAKHUBELE: THE ARCHITECT OF SUCCESS AT KAALFONTEIN SECONDARY SCHOOL

At just 36 years old, Mr. Rivalani Makhubele, the dynamic principal of Kaalfontein Secondary School, has orchestrated a remarkable turnaround in the school’s matric results. Achieving an astounding 89.1% pass rate for the class of 2023, Kaalfontein Secondary School soared from a disappointing 55% in 2022 to claim the top spot in KAE (Kaalfontein, Allandale, Ebony Park, Ivory Park, and Rabie Ridge).

Recently awarded the ‘Best Improved School in Gauteng’ by the Gauteng Department of Education, Makhubele’s leadership has transformed Kaalfontein Secondary School from last place to number 1. In just a year as principal, he’s brought about a remarkable change.

Makhubele, who began his teaching journey at Alexandra Secondary School and joined Kaalfontein Secondary School in its founding year in 2010, boasts 14 years of experience as an educator. His one-year tenure as principal has seen a significant impact.

In an exclusive interview with KAE News, Makhubele attributed the success to healthy competition within the school. Regular awards for matriculants at the end of every term fostered a culture of excellence. Teamwork and dedication among staff members also played a pivotal role.

Upon taking the helm, Makhubele initiated introspection and implemented new strategies. Each learner was profiled, and challenges were identified on a per-learner, per-subject, per-topic basis. The school re-taught where necessary.

Makhubele expressed gratitude for the support from parents and the community, also emphasizing the importance of morning, afternoon, and weekend lessons to cover the curriculum. Encouraging neighboring schools to collaborate, he emphasized competition through education and the promotion of quality education.

The principal also emphasized maintaining and strengthening discipline. The school used to be infamous for ill-discipline and is nicknamed “Gomora”.

In a final call, Makhubele urged parents to reconsider sending their children to schools in town and “bring them back home.”

Makhubele is a KAE resident and lives in Allandale.
