PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN AGAINST MEASLES

Measles is an infectious disease that is caused by measles virus. It is usually passed from one person to other through direct and close contact or through sneezing and coughing.

Measles affect children under the age of 1 and can also occur in older children, as well as adults who have not been vaccinated or who have not previously had the disease.

Symptoms of measles can include high fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes and measles rash 3-5 days after symptoms onset. Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease but can be deadly, particularly for children who’ve missed routine immunisations.

Parents and guardians are urged to ensure that children are up to date with their routine vaccination.

Protect yourself and many others by making sure you and your family members are fully vaccinated against measles.

A total of 305 laboratory-confirmed cases were reported from five provinces with declared measles outbreaks in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West , Gauteng, and Free State.
