PUBLIC NOTICE:WARD COMMITTEE NOMINATIONS OPEN
The City of Johannesburg is in the process of electing new Ward Committee members to assist the Ward Councillors.
Ward Committees are democratically elected members of a specific Ward who are meant to promote community participation.
Their responsibility is to make the Municipality aware of the needs and concerns of residents and keep people informed of the activities of the municipality.
Ward Commitee members serve for a period of 5 years and are required to attend monthly meetings where they then inform and advise the Councillor on the needs of the community.
Ward Committees comprise of the Ward Councillor as the Chairperson and ten (10) members of the community nominated from the following Sectors:
🗳 Finance & Economic Development (business, labour & Development Forums)
🗳 Community Development 1 (sports & culture, and youth)
🗳 Community Development 2 (women, religious groupings, CBO & NGOs)
🗳 Housing
🗳 Environment
🗳 Development Planning & Urban Management (land Use)
🗳 Transportation
🗳 Health
🗳 Safety
🗳 Infrastructure & Services (all Municipal Services e.g. Roads, Streetlights, water, refuse removal etc.
A person elected as a Ward Committee Member;
✅ Must reside in that particular ward.
✅ Must be a registered voter in the particular ward (18yrs and above)
✅ A person who, if indebted to the Municipality, or is in arrears regarding payments for his /her services account, should upon appointment, make necessary arrangement to his/her
obligation.
✅ Should be of sound mind.
The nomination process opens from today Thursday, 20 January 2022.
Every nomination must have a proposer and a seconder. The proposer and seconder must be registered voters and reside in the same ward as the nominee.
