KAE News is deeply saddened to learn that the Ivory Park Taxi Association (IPTA) Chairman and esteemed former SANTACO Chairperson in Gauteng, Mr. Buti Johannes Mkonza is no more.
Mkhonza died on Sunday 3rd November 2024 at Mediclinic Midstream Hospital at the age of 55, following a short illness.
The taxi industry has lost a remarkable leader, pioneer, and hero. Mr. Mkonza’s visionary leadership, mentorship, and selflessness leave an indelible mark in the industry.
Mkonza is the owner and the founder of BJM Coaches, he went from being a taxi operator and started the business in 1998 with one taxi, today he’s company is thriving with a Fleet of taxis, buses and mini taxis. He also owned a number of filling stations in Gauteng.
He was a visionary innovator who championed transformative economic empowerment within the taxi industry, developing and promoting diverse value chain opportunities, including groundbreaking Stokvel initiatives that built wealth, financial stability, and improved the monetary state of many industry stakeholders.
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved leader and colleague,” says SANTACO President Mr. Motlhabane Abnar Tsebe.
“Mr. Mkonza’s legacy will continue to inspire us to strive for greatness.”
In celebration of Mr. Mkonza’s life, a memorial service will be held as follows:
